Stacked units, closets and the clearance nobody leaves

Stacked washer-dryer units are common here because floor space is scarce, and they create a specific problem: the vent connection is high on the back of the unit with very little depth behind it. Installers compress the transition hose into a tight S-bend to make the door close, and that bend never recovers.

Closet installations add a second issue. A dryer needs make-up air to work; sealed into a closet with a solid door and no louvre, it starves, runs longer and pushes more lint per load into the duct. If we find a closet install without adequate air, we will point it out, because no amount of vent cleaning compensates for an appliance that cannot breathe.
